Sloan, 11:58pm tonight ... we're leaving *now* (pictures from the awful canada am breakfast -not that we were actually given any food- I had been roped into attending by a work friend, was somehow connected with the Canadian music kiss of death awards being hosted this weekend downtown - my Dartmouth neighbour Joel Plaskett played one song & despite what anyone saw, supposing anyone saw it at all, it was *not* a "typical nova scotian kitchen party" - only the lamest tv taping ever!) edit: I finally witnessed the mic lick from unintentionally close range (got pushed to the front), more pictures later (& the set actually started at 12:20) ... |

update: back from away
this time out: a brief trip in to nyc* (I did see mogwai courtesy of a very kind man on craig's list who not only sold the ticket at face value, but also met me by the side of the road in Boston to deliver it ... the show was loud as expected, but plagued with technical problems, guitars & pedals & errant tuning which could not be corrected even when the guitar tech was threatened with razor blades & lemon juice, I expect things will get better) & an extended Boston visit with one of my favorite americans - lots of greasy food consumed (some of which was a bit questionable), was disappointed by the duke spirit (but not by the over the top appearance of THEIR guitar tech or by the always lovely ted leo) & the crowd at Metric (a shaved eyebrow does a very scary uber-fan make, & there is no need for 500 people to crowd into a space of about 20 feet in front of the stage in a fairly large club with decent sight lines) ... returned home with a cold & a pile of records & a craving for chocolate chip cookie dough ... * ( 1. )* ( 2. )( halifax indie rock, revisted ) Current Music: mountain goats - why didn't anyone tell me before? |

puzzling requests ...
1980's hair metal band Motley Crue are staying at the Westin hotel today, my co-workers & I made a list of things that have been purchased on their behalf so far, as part of the band rider : cases & cases of MUG rootbeer LAYS potato chips (regular & salt and vinegar) lots of protein bars (high protein! low carb!) 10 lbs of high quality coffee (= 13 bags of justus, pre-ground, assorted flavours which was the best I could do when asked... & why ARE they asking the pharmacist?) bags of regular M&M's 1 large bag of QUAKER original oatmeal 8 lbs of mini-radishes (no salad, no fruit, just radishes!) oh yeah, I am going away this weekend ... |

beginning again takes so much time ...
from a few weeks ago: pictures from art brut in nyc ( keithtotp take good care of the cape & am incredibly embarrassed about a/ getting us lost at the south street seaport on the way to NJ b/ insulting your friends by forgetting their names c/ insisting that I was on the guestlist for the first show- was barely able to stand at that point & had absolutely no money left from the $54 cab ride) ... & multiple thanks to M for putting me up in Boston (despite everything there is no one with whom I'd rather watch fugazi video in my pyjamas) ... jackrational: jeff magnum demos (this is what I needed today, maybe you know what I mean?) edit: I don't think the links are working but these are too amazing not to pass on: now I'm going downarms so realgardenheaddead dogcircle of friendssay goodnight |

never a good idea, anyway ...you'd be forgiven for thinking I'd disappeared, horrible computer problems, since resolved, in the meantime I've got 1/3 through ulysess & had my eyesight improve to the point that I've been refused a new prescription for glasses .. tonight I'm in queens, sleeping at a friend's on a gym mat, just come from art brut @ the mercury (awesome & fun, weird little man with a mohawk took over the mic at one point which was a little scary but not completely out of control) & the afterparty at the darkroom (inevitable "celebrity" report: carlos d was there, don't think I've ever been there when he wasn't, bigger thrill was david j bauhaus/ tones on tail standing in the front bar of the mercury, much older but still with lovely bone structure ... not so huge thrill: reaching around to take off my sweater & realizing that my dress zipper had split, spent most of the evening secured with safety pins, which needed to be "rearranged" every time I tried to sit down) ... my new york experiences seem to become eerily similar so it may be time to start travelling somewhere else .. have got to get sleep, shout out if you're going to northsix tomorrow night (am going to see what I can do b/c I've got another show beforehand & no ticket at this point) ... pictures promised soon ... |

in need of medical attention ...
my computer is dead (as of last thursday), second time in as many years, this time I blame anton newcombe ("fuck your love!") as the 200 or so photos I took of BJM at cmj* must have been the cause of the crash (a flicker & a black screen right in the middle of uploading the roll, then the scary text implying that my operating system had disappeared) ... obviously it has nothing to do with the millions of photos of pete doherty already crowding the harddrive (& how many of those does one girl need anyway?), will try to recover what I can (all those lost music files!) but for now have only sporadic access from borrowed computers ... ( * more about BJM, again )( less cowbell (sloan, stills) )Am still kind of ill with the sore throat that drags on forever ... |
